Pagodes de Cos was born twenty-five years ago of a desire to offer a new interpretation of the terroirs of Cos d‘Estournel.
Reserved for crafting a wine with a most singular identity, individually selected plots are entrusted to the same vine grower from one year to the next.
Plot no. 53b is the perfect illustration of the philosophy of Pagodes de Cos. Forty years old, its Cabernet Sauvignon vines have been tended to by Sébastien for the past twenty years and are exclusively dedicated to this unique wine.
Cultivated under extremely favorable conditions, Merlot grapes deliver aromas of fruit and tension that are fundamental to the balance of Pagodes, according to Technical Director Dominique Arangoïts.
Ninety years old, the Merlot vines thrive on plot no. 54’s gravelly soils. Their venerable age demands ceaseless attention from Christophe, who has been entrusted with their care for the past six vintages.
Pagodes de Cos expresses multiple facets, with delectable notes of red and black berries, a touch of spice characteristic of the terroir of Cos, and a saline finish.
It is neither a Second Wine nor a secondary one, but rather a complement to Cos d’Estournel, one that combines the trademark complexity of Cos d’Estournel with pure delight.
